Inspiring overseas projects

Devimco has travelled the world in search of the great successes in neighbourhood revitalisation so that the Griffintown Project becomes the model in terms of the harmonious coexistence of urban functions with respect to sustainable development and urban heritage.

For example, here are two projects that led to the rebirth of historic urban areas.

BRINDLEYPLACE Birmingham, United Kingdom | Opened in September 2007

The project

  • The site was occupied mainly by manufacturers during the industrial boom at the start of the century.
  • The decline in a number of industries caused the closure of several of them in the 70s.
  • The revitalisation project’s goal was to provide an environment with different bodies of water, trails and buildings—all converging on a canal.
  • Bridges were erected to make Brindleyplace easily accessible from the International Conference Centre.
The main attractions are:
  • Three large public spaces
  • The City Inn Hotel
  • The Ikon Gallery
  • The National Sea Life Aquarium Centre
THE ORACLE Reading, Berkshire, United Kingdom | Opened September 1999

The project

  • The founding of the city of Reading goes back to the 8th Century. The city experienced great success during the Medieval and Tudor periods because of its textile trade.
  • The Oracle was then one of the major garment manufacturers and the new development now bears its name.
  • The integration of The Oracle project was completed with the agreement of the industry’s various historic sites and the new business plan.

The project is part of Le Havre, one of three major projects identified by the Mayor of Montreal as part of the Montreal 2025 vision, the other two being Quartier des Spectacles and Montreal Technopole.
