Interaction and partnership

Devimco conducted a continuous retroactive consultation process with the community to design a wide-scope urban real estate development plan to revitalize an entire sector of Griffintown, rich in history and with tremendous potential.

The developer has met with and listened to the citizens and organizations of the Southwest borough, as well as other organizations in Montréal to reflect their reality, their needs and the challenges they have submitted. The success of a project of this magnitude is based on specific concerns. Without a doubt, Devimco intends to propose a unique and compelling project for and with Montréalers, as evidenced by agreements with key stakeholders.

It will develop collaborative programs or partnerships with various organizations such as:

  • Bâtir son quartier
  • Board of trade of Metropolitan Montreal
  • City of Montréal
  • Coopérative d’habitation Sainte-Anne
  • CSSS du Sud-Ouest-Verdun
  • Destination Centre-Ville
  • École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS)

Sustainable development
Devimco and the Ecole de technologie supérieure (ETS) have reached an agreement in principle to establish a chair of studies in sustainable development at ETS. The chair will receive financial support from Devimco resulting in an investment of $1 million over five years.

In addition, the agreement will enable ETS students to participate in the preparation of the Griffintown Project will respect the universally recognized criteria of sustainable development.

« We are pleased to welcome Devimco’s investment through which we can further develop our research and expertise in sustainable development by finding new urban applications. With our fields of study, chairs and health and environment research groups, and also for the many initiatives of our students in terms of sustainable development, the ETS distinguishes itself with regard to environmental and social concerns. We intend to make every effort to continue along this path for our students and for the Montréal community. ».
Yves Beauchamp, Principal of the École de technologie supérieure

Heritage
Héritage Montréal has proposed three guiding principles for the project:
  • Identify, preserve and revitalize the sector’s heritage sector in the diversity of its expressions in order to take advantage of its identity.
  • Develop a design concept that will intensify and densify the area while preserving its character through the diversity of buildings and the mix of uses.
  • Integrate the project’s expanded urban setting in terms of development, visual impact, backgrounds and movements, taking into account other areas of interest or revitalisation.
The developer has agreed to develop this project in consideration of these three guiding principles.
Social and affordable housing
Devimco is working with Bâtir son quartier as well as the Montréal Housing and Development Corporation (MHDC) on the aspect of social and affordable housing. The developer also wishes to associate with them as soon as possible so the project is the best possible and that it truly meets the needs of the most vulnerable clients.
Jobs
Devimco and RESO and have agreed to seek the best impact on the preservation and creation of jobs. They have created a businesses relocation committee in close collaboration with the Southwest borough to promote expansion and job creation. They will also develop a workforce training strategy to encourage local hiring.
Public transit
Devimco remains focused on achieving goals of excellence and innovation in design, urban planning and sustainable development. To this end, Devimco is working in conjunction with the City of Montréal, Montréal Transit Corporation and Société du Havre to promote sustainable development through the use of public transit.

In this context, the promoter will promote the proposed Transportation Plan. That’s why Devimco has promised to invest $10 million to develop a potential tram service connecting downtown, Old Montréal and St. Catherine Street.

The project is part of Le Havre, one of three major projects identified by the Mayor of Montreal as part of the Montreal 2025 vision, the other two being Quartier des Spectacles and Montreal Technopole.
